The town is located in the center of Istria, south of the valley of the river Mirna. The town is known for its medieval walls that form a complete ring and two semicircles. Motovun is 277 meters high and offers a magnificent view of the vineyards and forest below.

The town itself is surrounded by well-preserved medieval ramparts that offer not only historical protection but also magnificent views of the surrounding area.

The area around Motovun is characterised by a hilly landscape, with green hills and picturesque valleys. Vineyards, olive groves and Mediterranean forests all contribute to the region’s natural beauty.

The area around Motovun is famous for growing truffles, particularly white truffles. Truffles are a local culinary speciality, and the town even hosts an annual festival dedicated to these gastronomic delights.

The town has good tourist infrastructure with many hotels. You can discover the local flavors through the restaurants. Motovun offers a wide range of activities and entertainment such as walks through the vineyards and forest, and truffle hunting.

Legend has it that Motovun was built by giants with huge stones collected from the valley of the Mirna River. The whole city is a open-air museum with many monuments. Motovun preserved the authentic landscape of the Middle Ages. Motovun also has the longest staircase in Istria. There are 1052 steps from the top of the hill to the bottom of the mountain! Motovun also has several palaces located around the town square.

The Motovun Film Festival is held every year. The city is in a festive mood during this period and you can enjoy the enchanting atmosphere.
